Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday pledged full cooperation with Balochistan to address security and development challenges, saying national unity was essential to eliminate terrorism.
She made these remarks after arriving at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta, where she was warmly received by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, members of the provincial cabinet and lawmakers.
During her visit, Maryam Nawaz met members of the Balochistan cabinet and allied parties and discussed issues related to security, development and inter-provincial cooperation.
“This is my first visit to Balochistan as chief minister, and I am happy to be here,” she said. “The spirit and loyalty of the people of Balochistan towards Pakistan are admirable.”
She said the Punjab government would extend all possible support to Balochistan and place its resources and services at the province’s disposal.
“Terrorism can only be defeated through national unity. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the people and government of Balochistan,” she added.
CM Maryam expressed her desire to see peace, stability and prosperity in the province and prayed for its progress.
She thanked the governor and chief minister for the warm reception and praised CM Bugti for handling provincial affairs with courage under difficult circumstances.
“We want Balochistan to become a centre of peace and happiness,” she said. “It will be an honour for me to serve the people of this province.”
She also assured cooperation in efforts against extremist elements and said Punjab would provide all possible assistance in dealing with security challenges.
CM Bugti welcomed the Punjab chief minister and thanked her for the visit. He said the provinces were united for peace, stability and public welfare.
He described Punjab’s support in security matters as positive and commendable.
