Dr Niaz Akhtar has been appointed chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Friday for a two-year term.

The appointment was approved by the prime minister.

Dr Niaz Akhtar was previously serving as vice chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University.
