Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Monday that a final decision on Pakistan’s participation in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 would be taken either on Friday or next Monday.
Naqvi made the remarks after meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, where he briefed the premier on what he termed the “ICC matter.”
According to a handout issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Naqvi updated the prime minister on recent developments between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board regarding the T20 World Cup.
Sources said the meeting included a detailed discussion on Pakistan’s participation in the global tournament.
Naqvi also briefed the prime minister on what he described as the ICC’s “dual standards” in handling issues related to the event.
The government has decided to lodge a strong protest with the ICC over these concerns, sources added.
Naqvi said that all options were discussed and kept open during the meeting, reiterating that the final decision would be announced on Friday or Monday.
The prime minister directed that the issue be resolved “amicably,” according to sources, and expressed confidence in Naqvi’s handling of the matter.
Officials said the PCB would determine its next steps after further contact and consultations with the ICC.
Separately, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla was quoted as saying India had wanted Bangladesh to play in the World Cup.
