Trump invites PM Shehbaz Sharif to join ‘Gaza Peace Board’

US President Donald Trump has invited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to join the newly constituted ‘Gaza Peace Board.’

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received an invitation from President Trump to include Pakistan in the ‘Gaza Peace Board.’

The statement noted that Pakistan is committed to seeking a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue and will continue its efforts for peace and security in Gaza.

The statement added that the long-term resolution of the Palestinian issue can only be achieved through the implementation of United Nations resolutions.

As part of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, President Trump recently announced the formation of an international board to oversee the security, monitoring, and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, named the ‘Board of Peace.’

According to a statement released by the White House, the names of the Board’s main executive members were also announced.

The executive members of the Board include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, billionaire businessman Marc Rowan, President of the World Bank Ajay Banga, and US Deputy National Security Advisor Robert Gabriel.

President Trump also named former British prime minister Tony Blair and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as founding executive members of the ‘Board of Peace.’

According to the White House, the Board’s mandate is to devise a political strategy for Gaza’s future, raise global funds, and monitor security-related matters.

Former UN envoy Nickolay Mladenov has been appointed as the senior representative for Gaza, who will act as a liaison between the Board and the Technocratic Committee.

In October, an agreement was reached between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas under President Trump’s mediation, which resulted in a ceasefire.

The agreement stated that Gaza’s governance would be handed over to a Palestinian technocratic body, supervised by an international ‘Board of Peace’ for a transitional period.
