A returning officer has issued a notice to senior PML-N leader and former MNA Abid Sher Ali for violating ballot secrecy during the PP-116 Faisalabad by-election on Sunday.
According to election officials, Abid Sher Ali recorded a video while casting his vote inside the polling station.
The footage showed him stamping his ballot paper, an act the returning officer described as a legal offence, as photographing or filming a marked ballot is prohibited under election laws.
The returning officer has summoned the former lawmaker to appear on Monday to provide an explanation.
Earlier, the video of Abid Sher Ali stamping his ballot paper went viral.
Under the election code of conduct, voters are required to mark their ballots behind the voting screen.
However, Abid Sher Ali was seen stamping the lion symbol in the presence of polling staff and several other individuals.
