Fog-induced accident claims lives of five family members in Bahawalpur

An accident has claimed the lives of five family members after their car was struck by a container on Ahmedpur Road, Bahawalpur, on Monday. The incident occurred due to heavy fog, which significantly reduced visibility.

The car driver allegedly made a sudden turn toward another road, causing the following container to lose control and collide with the vehicle, rescue officials stated.

The deceased have been identified as Shazia Zahid, 40, Summaiya Qasim, 28, and three minors.

Motorways closed

In response to the poor visibility, several motorways in Punjab and Sindh have been closed. The M-4 motorway from Khanewal to Multan was shut down while the traffic on the M-5 from Multan to Rukanpur was suspended, and the M-5 at the Jalalpur Pirwala Interchange was also closed. Visibility in Nowshero Feroze was dropped to just 10 metres, posing risks for drivers in the area.

Peshawar also experienced dense fog, resulting in the closure of the M-1 motorway from the Peshawar Toll Plaza to the Swabi Interchange for all types of traffic.

The visibility on the motorway fell to just 30 metres, a spokesperson for the motorway police stated.
