Pakistan Railways is set to unveil a high-speed express train service connecting Lahore and Karachi, modelled after the Green-Line Express that currently runs between Islamabad and Karachi via Lahore.

An official from the Ministry of Railways noted that the primary aim of the new service “is to offer passengers upgraded amenities and a superior travel experience.”

Preparations for the launch of this modern train are under way, with teams from various departments actively involved. The service is anticipated to commence by the end of January next year.

The official highlighted Pakistan Railways’ commitment to enhancing passenger services, stating that the organisation is “leveraging new technology to manufacture coaches locally, thereby reducing reliance on imports.”

He added that the department is committed to enhancing the food quality and cleanliness of its services to create a comfortable and hygienic environment for travellers.

The Green-Line Express, launched in 2015 at Islamabad’s Margalla Railway Station, operates a 20-hour journey from Islamabad to Karachi Cantonment Station. It makes stops at major cities including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Sukkur/Rohri, Hyderabad, and Drigh Road.

According to the official, the train provides a range of classes, including AC, AC parlour, and Economy Class, along with a modern dining car that offers high-quality meals and services.
