A Punjab Rangers man who got injured during Islamabad protests last month was martyred on Thursday, according to a statement.
Lance Naik Muhammad Tanveer, 37, a Narowal resident, had been in a coma after sustaining injuries during the clashes on November 25 and 26.
Tanveer served the nation for 17 years, and he is survived by his wife, two sons, and three daughters.
“During the protests, PTI activists carried out violent attacks, targeting public property and causing irreparable damage,” it said and added that the number of Rangers personnel killed due to such attacks has reached four, with several others injured.
At least three Pakistan Rangers soldiers were martyred when a vehicle ran over them on Srinagar Highway in Islamabad as jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s supporters stormed the federal capital to demand his release on November 25.
The late-night incident was quickly followed by the deployment of the Pakistan Army to the streets of Islamabad.
Moreover, two Punjab Police officers were killed and around 119 others were injured. Islamabad Police reported that 11 of their officers sustained serious injuries from the violence.
Numerous videos of the violent incidents and vandalism have surfaced, “showing PTI activists setting fires at various locations.” Authorities have stated that strict legal action would be taken against the violent elements involved in such attacks.
