Pakistani cricket star Babar Azam has etched his name in the annals of cricket history by becoming the fastest player in the world to score 11,000 runs in T20 cricket.
This remarkable milestone was achieved during his 31-run performance in the second T20I against South Africa at SuperSport Park in Centurion, where he broke the previous record held by the legendary West Indies batter, Chris Gayle.
Gayle, known for his explosive batting style, had reached the 11,000-run mark in 314 innings. In a stunning display of skill and consistency, Babar accomplished this feat in just 299 innings, making him the only player ever to achieve such a milestone in under 300 innings.
At just 30 years of age, Babar’s record includes an impressive tally of 11 centuries and 90 half-centuries in the T20 format, showcasing his prowess as one of the game’s leading batsmen.
In addition to his record-breaking achievement, Babar is now part of an exclusive group of players. He becomes the 11th batter overall and only the second Pakistani, following Shoaib Malik, to surpass the 11,000-run mark in T20 cricket. Malik, who has accumulated 13,415 runs, is currently the second-highest run-scorer in T20 history, highlighting the significance of Babar’s accomplishment.
Moreover, during his innings against South Africa, Babar also reached another significant milestone by surpassing 14,000 runs in international cricket. This achievement places him among an elite group of Pakistani cricketers, as he becomes the fifth player from the nation to reach this landmark.
