At least six sections of the motorways would be closed from Friday night because of ‘maintenance’, the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) said.
“The general public is hereby informed that due to road maintenance, the following motorways will remain closed starting from 8:00 PM on November 22,” it said in a Facebook post.
M-1: Islamabad to Peshawar
M-2: Islamabad to Lahore
M-3: Lahore to Abdul Hakeem
M-4: Pindi Bhattian to Multan
M-14: Hakla to Yarik
M-11: Lahore to Sialkot
While apologising for the inconvenience, the NHMP has urged the people to avoid unnecessary travel.
The update comes at a time when the federal and provincial governments are taking steps to stop PTI supporters from marching towards Islamabad on November 24.
There are reports that the Centre would partially suspend mobile and internet services from November 22, which incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan’s party believes was aimed at stopping them from having contacts.

Described as the “final call”, Khan has urged his supporters to march towards the federal capital on Sunday for the “restoration” of democracy and judiciary.
On Thursday, his wife Bushra Bibi confirmed that the protest would be staged and rebuffed rumours related to the protest being cancelled. She clarified that the protest date could only be changed if the PTI founder would be released.
