PTI, PPP nominate names for judicial commission

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has approved two names for the Judicial Commission: Omar Ayub and Syed Shibli Faraz.

This follows the PTI’s earlier submission of a seven-member list, including former commission members, which comprised Barrister Gohar, Barrister Ali Zafer, Barrister Umer Niazi, Omar Ayub, Asad Qaiser, Latif Khosa, and Ali Muhammad Khan.

Sources indicate that while the initial preference was for parliamentarians with legal expertise, this criterion was seemingly disregarded.

Omar Ayub (from the National Assembly) and Syed Shibli Faraz (from the Senate) were ultimately chosen. The PTI is expected to formally submit these names to the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate tomorrow.

The 13-member Judicial Commission will include two members each from the government and the opposition, as mandated by the 26th Amendment. The government is expected to submit its nominees tomorrow as well, with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) reportedly nominating Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Farooq Naik.

THe law minister and attorney general are already part of the commission.

Assembly secretariat sources confirm that no nominations have yet been received, and a notification will be issued upon their receipt.
