Karachi: Extortion gang targeting shopkeepers busted

Authorities have busted a gang involved in extorting money from cooking centers and shopkeepers in Karachi.

In a recent operation, a suspect named Faraz was apprehended in Delhi Colony while collecting an extortion payment of fifty thousand rupees.

SSP Shoaib Memon of the Special Investigation Unit announced the breakthrough during a press conference, revealing that the gang is composed of family members operating from Malaysia.

Shopkeepers were targeted via WhatsApp messages sent from Malaysian numbers, and Faraz has several cases registered against him at various police stations.

He was arrested red-handed while accepting an extortion payment of one hundred thousand rupees. Interrogation revealed that he works for Saboori, the female leader of the extortion ring based in Malaysia.

SSP Memon added that Faraz’s sister, Saboori, and her husband, Hamad, are also implicated in this criminal enterprise.

He noted that the gang typically scouts successful biryani shops to identify the best opportunities for extortion.
