Protest breaks out over alleged rape of student in Lahore

A reported rape at a private college in Lahore has sparked conflicting narratives and widespread student protests. While students have staged demonstrations and boycotted classes, police claim the alleged incident remains unverified, with no official report or contact from the alleged victim or her family.

Following unconfirmed social media reports alleging a security guard’s involvement in the rape, police apprehended the suspect. DIG Operations Faisal Kamran stated that neither the alleged victim nor her family has contacted authorities, and no official report has been filed with the relevant police station, the 15 helpline, or the college administration.

Students protested outside the Gulberg campus, leading to clashes with security guards who attempted to lock down classrooms and gates. In response, students vandalized property, damaging CCTV cameras and the entrance register.

One student was injured, and several others experienced medical distress. Students at a nearby campus also protested. Later, female students blocked Canal Road near Muslim Town, protesting the alleged assault and claiming a male and female student were attacked by a security guard. The injured students were hospitalized.
