Global protests erupt over Kolkata rape-murder case
Thousands of protesters from the Indian community rallied in over 130 cities across 25 countries, demanding justice for a trainee doctor’s rape and murder in Kolkata.
The protests began in Japan, Australia, Taiwan, and Singapore, and quickly spread to European cities, with 60 demonstrations planned in the United States alone,on Sunday.
The victim, a 31-year-old postgraduate student in chest medicine, was killed on August 9, sparking outrage and ongoing protests throughout India.
A suspect has been arrested, along with the former principal of the RG Kar Medical College where the victim studied.
In Stockholm, demonstrators sang Bengali songs and held signs urging accountability and safety for women.

Organizers emphasized the brutality of the crime, highlighting the ongoing issue of sexual violence against women in India, despite stricter laws introduced after the infamous 2012 Delhi gang rape case.
The Supreme Court is set to hear the case on Monday, as activists continue to call for justice and reform in the wake of this tragedy.
