Interior Mohsin Naqvi has assured Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Barrister Gohar that a meeting with Imran Khan will be arranged in Adiala Jail on Monday, sources claimed. However, a ministry spokesperson clarified that the minister has only assured that the PTI chairman’s request will be ‘considered’.
According to sources, the meeting can potentially take place in jail later on Monday.
Naqvi and Gohar reportedly talked to each other on the phone on Monday, where Gohar asked for a meeting to be arranged with Imran Khan. Gohar also requested that Khan’s personal physician to be allowed access to him in jail.
A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry confirmed that the call did take place, but Naqvi only assured Gohar that the request would be considered.
The spokesperson added that only allowing meetings for Imran Khan would amount to preferential treatment.
Imran Khan is incarcerated in Adiala Jail along with wife Bushra Bibi. However, jail authorities have enforced a blanket ban on meetings with inmates till October 18. The decision to ban meetings was taken in view of the security situation necessistated by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Islamabad.
