The father of Indian actress Malaika Arora, Anil Mehta, who has died by suicide on Wednesday called his daughters, Malaika and Amrita, expressing his distress with the words, “I’m sick and tired,” Indian media reported.“
A post-mortem examination is currently underway at Bhabha Hospital to confirm the cause of death.
“We are investigating everything… prima facie it looks like suicide, we are conducting further investigation,” police said.
Malaika took to her Instagram and expressed the family’s profound grief over the tragic death of their father.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock over this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding, support, and respect,” the statement read.
Anil Mehta, 65, tragically passed away on Wednesday morning after jumping from the sixth-floor balcony of his home in Bandra. His wife, Joyce Polycarp, was in their apartment at Ayesha Manor during the incident. She noticed her husband’s slippers in the living room around 9 am, which led her to search for him.
When she could not find him, she leaned over the balcony railing and saw a chaotic scene below, with a security guard calling for help. “That was when I realized something was seriously wrong,” she reportedly told the police.

Malaika was en route to an event in Pune at the time she received the call.
Upon hearing the news, her family members and ex-husband Arbaaz Khan arrived at her father’s residence, with Malaika also traveling from Pune to join them.
According to Indian media, Malaika’s father had died after jumping off a building in Mumbai on Wednesday morning at 11 am.
