A woman identified only as Malgorzata, 30, was reportedly held captive, tortured, and raped in an abandoned barn in Poland for four years by a man she met on a dating site, The Telegraph reported.
The suspect, Mateusz J, a 35-year-old labourer, was arrested this week and faces severe charges, including mental, physical, and sexual abuse.
Malgorzata met Mateusz in 2019 and traveled to his small village near Glogow, western Poland, where she was allegedly imprisoned in a dilapidated barn just four metres from his neighbours, according to local news site myGlogow. During her captivity, she endured regular beatings and assaults, eventually becoming pregnant.
The victim was confined in a stone room with a bricked-up window, lacking access to electricity, running water, a toilet, or any hygiene products.
She disclosed that when she failed to meet his sexual demands, she faced severe punishment.
During her ordeal, she was reportedly impregnated by Mateusz and taken to a hospital in Nowa Sol to give birth, only to be forced to give the child up for adoption. Fearing for her life, Malgorzata expressed her inability to tell the medical staff the truth about her situation, as Mateusz had threatened her with worse consequences if she complained.
Her case has drawn comparisons to notorious criminal Josef Fritzl, who imprisoned his daughter for 24 years while fathering seven children with her.

Over the four years, Malgorzata was hospitalized multiple times due to severe injuries inflicted by Mateusz, including a broken arm and leg, and last year underwent surgery for a serious injury.
On Tuesday, she was admitted to the hospital again for a dislocated shoulder, where she finally managed to alert her doctors, prompting them to contact the police. Mateusz, arrested on August 30, denies all charges against him. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
