Post-mortem examination has confirmed that a 12-year-old girl, identified as Ganga, whose body was found in a garbage dump from the Saddar area, Karachi, was sexually assaulted and killed.
The police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed stated that the initial findings indicate sexual assault. The police further clarified that the girl’s body was dumped there after her death.
“Initial post-mortem examination findings are suggestive of sexual violence,” the surgeon said.
The surgeon stated that all necessary swabs and samples had been collected for serological, DNA, and intoxication tests.
“The cause of death will not be disclosed until the test reports are available,” Dr. Syed added.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Syed Asad Raza stated that a passerby informed the police about the girl’s body found near a parking lot.
He said that the girl had been sexually assaulted, and based on her appearance, she seemed to be a destitute girl.
Later in the day, DIG Raza mentioned that over half a dozen suspects had been taken into custody for interrogation.
The officer said he had formed a special investigative team led by Superintendent of Police Majida Halepoto to look into the case.
In a subsequent statement, Raza revealed that the victim, along with her mother, had come from Sukkur many years ago to care for a sick relative who lived under the Lilly Bridge in the Cantt area.
The DIG stated that the victim’s mother had gone to JPMC for treatment on Saturday night and returned to the bridge around 2 am on Sunday, only to find her daughter missing.
The DIG said the victim girl had gone to a nearby restaurant to get free food when she was allegedly kidnapped.
He said CCTV footage obtained from the crime scene at Lucky Star showed that a bike rider came and left her body there. The DIG added that DNA samples of all eight suspects have been collected for investigative purposes.

In response, the Chief Minister and Governor of Sindh have demanded a report from the authorities.
Additionally, the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, has met with the family of the deceased girl.
The Governor assured the victim’s mother that justice will be served, stating that no matter how powerful the alleged perpetrator might be, they will not escape punishment for this shameful act. He vowed that the criminal responsible will not be spared.
The Governor of Sindh also provided a financial assistance of 100,000 rupees to the victim’s family and promised to provide employment opportunities for the parents.
