Police identify men who abandoned body of minor boy at Karachi hospital

Say two men were not present when they raided a house in the city’s Defence area

Police have claimed to have identified men who abandoned the body of a minor boy at Karachi’s Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre hospital on Wednesday. The child died moments after he was brought to the hospital.

The car in which they arrived at the hospital’s emergency department was registered in the name of Muhammad Raza, according to police.

They claimed to have conducted a raid in the city’s Defence area where the owner of the car lives. But the suspects were not at the house.

Police have maintained that they were in contact with the victim’s family which has gone to Punjab to bury the deceased. Suspects would be arrested after the registration of the case, they added.

Moreover, they were looking into the cause of the death.

There are conflicting reports related to the minor’s death as police claimed that the child died in a road accident, however, the police surgeon said his injuries suggested he was sexually and physically abused.

Initial reports said that the six-year-old boy, who lives in the city’s Qayyumabad area, had injury marks on his head and face. Eyewitnesses said that the driver of the car hit the security guard of the hospital while fleeing.

According to police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed, the post-mortem report of the body revealed several bruises and injury marks including fresh and old ones on the victim’s body.

Police were still waiting for the post-mortem report, sources said.

South Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Asad Raza had directed the Saddar SHO to obtain CCTV footage of the surrounding areas to ascertain the facts.
