Pakistan is celebrating its 77 year of independence today with national fervor and resolve to work towards the country’s uplift and progress.
The Independence Day began with 31-gun salutes in the federal capital Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered in mosques for peace, solidarity and prosperity of the country.
The main event is the national flag hoisting ceremony in Islamabad, which will be replicated at provincial, divisional and district headquarters across the country. There is a public holiday, and offices and businesses remain closed for the occasion.
National flags have been hoisted on public buildings, and various public and private premises have been decorated with colorful lights. Radio and TV channels are highlighting the services and contributions of the heroes of the Pakistan movement.
Roadside stalls selling Independence Day paraphernalia like flags, badges, stickers and festive clothing for adults and children have sprung up in cities. There is a surge in shopping as retailers offer “Azadi deals” and discounts ranging from 10% to 50% to mark the occasion.
