Sukkur to honour Arshad Nadeem with gold crown

On the desire of the people of Sukkur, Sindh government spokesperson and Sukkur Mayor Arsalan Islam Sheikh has announced that Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem would be awarded a gold crown and the new sports stadium in the city would be named after the athlete in honour of his remarkable achievement.

Sheikh extended an invitation to Nadeem to visit Sukkur where he would be bestowed with the gold crown upon arrival.

“Every Pakistani is rejoicing as Arshad Nadeem has broken a century-old record, making every Pakistani proud,” he said.

The Sukkur mayor praised Nadeem, saying: “He has given a beautiful gift to Pakistan with the prayers of our mothers and sisters and the entire nation.”

Nadeem threw an Olympic record of 92.97 metres for victory, India’s defending champion Neeraj Chopra taking silver with 89.45. Grenada’s Anderson Peters claimed bronze with 88.54m.

Nadeem, the 2022 Commonwealth champion who was fifth at the Tokyo Olympics and a silver medallist at last year’s Budapest world championships, said the result was “very important for Pakistan because I have worked very hard over the years for this”.

All of Pakistan’s previous three gold medals came in field hockey, with their team winning gold in 1960, 1968 and 1984.
