The Sindh government has granted deputy commissioners the authority to issue firearm licences, effective from August 1. The provincial government has issued a notification to this effect.
“With the approval of Minister for Home, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Criminal Prosecution, Sindh, ban on issuance of arms licenses at deputy commissioner offices in the province is hereby lifted with effect from August 01, 2024,” said the notification issued on Friday.
Last year, the caretaker government revoked the power of deputy commissioners to issue firearm licenses.
The decision is seen as a response to the security concerns and demands of the public. By empowering the deputy commissioners, the Sindh government aims to make the process of obtaining firearm licenses more accessible and streamlined for the citizens.
