12 arrested for honey-trapping playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar: police

Deputy Inspector General Imran Kishwar stated that around 12 suspects have been arrested who kidnapped renowned playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.

DIG stated that a group of 12 suspects allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs1 crore from playwright Khalil ur Rehman Qamar through a honey trap operation. The suspects allegedly held Qamar captive for 2 hours, blindfolded him, and took him to Nankana Sahib.

The suspects are reported to have used violence against Qamar and repeatedly demanded the ransom. Qamar has filed an FIR regarding the incident on July 20. The police have recovered Kalashnikov rifles, SMGs, pistols, and wireless sets from the arrested suspects.

According to the police, the accused Amna Arooj and four others allegedly honey-trapped Qamar. The accused, a resident of Gujranwala, would lure high-profile individuals and extort money from them.

A case has been registered against the accused.

The accused Arooj has stated in her statement to the police that she had been communicating with Qamar for 10-15 days, chatting on the phone and exchanging photos. She had then invited him to her house, leading to the incident.

The police are investigating the matter from various angles based on the accused’s statement.

Qamar was previously abducted and a ransom was demanded for his release. However, Qamar had filed a complaint about the incident at the police station. The police had then arrested 4 suspects, including the woman, with the help of CCTV footage.

The Organised Crime Unit of police has claimed to have arrested four suspects, including a woman, for torturing and the kidnapping of dramatist Khalilur Rehman Qamar in Lahore.

They were identified through CCTV footage, sources told Aaj News on Sunday. Police have also recovered the vehicle used in the abduction.
