IHC dismisses cases against Sheikh Rashid for offensive remarks against Bilawal

Islamabad High Court dismissed the cases filed against Pakistan Awami Muslim League leader Sheikh Rashid in the Mochkaa and Lasbela police stations.

These cases were filed against him for using derogatory language against Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.

Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri in Islamabad High Court issued the ruling. Rashid was present in the courtroom when the decision was announced.

Rashid had also accused Pakistani President Asif Zardari of being involved in a conspiracy to assassinate Imran Khan, the founder of the PTI party.

Rashid was arrested on February 2, 2023, late at night, for his statement alleging that Asif Zardari was involved in a conspiracy to assassinate Imran Khan.

A local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Raja Inayat, had filed a complaint against Sheikh Rashid for making the allegation about Zardari’s involvement in a conspiracy to kill Imran Khan.

Based on the complainant’s statement, the Aabpara Police had registered a case against Rashid, including sections 120-B, 153-A, and 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code, related to the allegation against Zardari of a conspiracy to murder Imran Khan.

After his arrest, Rashid was presented before a local court in Islamabad on the same day, where the court granted his two-day physical remand.

On February 3, a case was also registered against Sheikh Rashid in Karachi for using derogatory language against Foreign Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
