Punjab Home Department has decided to install around 4500 modern AI-powered cameras in 43 jails.
This decision was made in the Reforms Committee meeting, which was led by Punjab Home Department Chief Secretary Noor-Ul-Amin Mengal.
The meeting was attended by IG Prisons Punjab Mian Farooq Nazir, the Additional Secretary Prisons, and other senior officials.
It was decided in the meeting that offices, prisoners’ barracks, security walls, jammers area, kitchen, hospital, library and all routes be monitored as a high-security zone.
The latest surveillance system will leverage artificial intelligence technology, which will help to monitor all movements inside the jails.
The control rooms are also to be set in jails, the offices of Inspector General Prisons, and the Home Department.
