Pop star John Legend has expressed his horror and condemnation over the abuse allegations made against music mogul Sean Combs “Diddy”.
In a recent interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Legend stated that he believes the women who have come forward with accusations against Combs, including Combs’ ex-girlfriend Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura.
Legend said he was deeply disturbed by the initial reports of abuse as well as the subsequent video evidence released by CNN, which showed Combs physically assaulting Ventura. “My default stance is to believe women when they make these accusations and to make sure that we do whatever we can to support women,” Legend asserted.
The singer, who had previously collaborated with Combs on the song “Kim Porter,” stressed the importance of ensuring survivors of abuse are heard and that there is accountability and reparations to help them heal. While Combs has apologized for his actions in the released video, calling them “inexcusable,” the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has stated they cannot press charges due to the statute of limitations.
