The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, is “considering” making a surprise appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony during this year’s Trooping the Color celebration on June 15.
The princess will not be returning to public duties for the Colonel’s Review, a rehearsal event for the main Trooping the Color parade, just a week earlier on June 8. As colonel-in-chief of the Irish Guards, Kate would typically be expected to take the salute at the Colonel’s Review, but sources say she will continue to focus on her ongoing cancer treatment.
The 42-year-old royal has not been seen in public since Christmas Day, as she has been receiving treatment away from the spotlight since her cancer diagnosis in January. While no firm date has been set for her return to official engagements, the insider suggested she may appear at Trooping the Colour “if she is feeling well enough.”
The annual Trooping the Color parade marks the official birthday of the British monarch, and traditionally culminates with the royal family appearing on the Buckingham Palace balcony. This year, King Charles III, who was also diagnosed with cancer in January, has confirmed he will participate, though he will inspect the soldiers from a carriage rather than on horseback.
