Prince William and his wife Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, celebrated 10 years of marriage on April 29, 2024. The popular royal couple are increasingly seen as the future of the British monarchy as other senior royals age or step back.
William, 38, and Kate, 39, first met while studying at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and dated for over 7 years before tying the knot at Westminster Abbey in 2011. They now have three children - Prince George (7), Princess Charlotte (5), and Prince Louis (3) - who represent the next generations destined to lead the centuries-old monarchy.
After a decade of carrying out solo and joint royal duties as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the couple remain among the most beloved members of the royal family. “We really have as near to normal a family in the Cambridges as we’ve ever seen in the royal family and that all bodes well for the future,” said royal expert Penny Junor.
However, the past few years have included some turbulence for the royals, with the death of Prince Philip and the high-profile departure of Prince Harry and Meghan from the institution. Harry’s criticisms of the monarchy and strained relationship with William made headlines. But the brothers appeared to take steps towards reconciliation after Philip’s funeral.
Through it all, Kate has maintained her poise and elegance, drawing widespread praise for her comportment. “She has got such poise and elegance and she’s not in competition with William. Everything about her is measured. She’s a grown-up.”, Junor noted.
