All passengers of an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Varanasi were evacuated on Tuesday after a “bomb threat”, according to the Indian airline. But it turned out to be a ‘hoax’.
“IndiGo flight 6E2211 operating from Delhi to Varanasi had received a specific bomb threat at Delhi airport. All necessary protocols were followed, and the aircraft was taken to a remote bay as per guidelines by airport security agencies,” the airline said in a statement.
The airline confirmed that it underwent a thorough inspection and after security checks, it was placed at the terminal.
The flight was scheduled to take off at 5:35am.
A “tissue paper, with the ‘bomb’ written on it, was found in the lavatory” of the aircraft, a Central Industrial Security Force senior officer told the ANI news agency.[
“It prompted security agencies to conduct an inspection, but it turned out to be a hoax,” he said.
