A series of severe storms, accompanied by heavy winds and rain, have resulted in the tragic deaths of six people, including four children, and injured over 15 others in Rawalpindi and Sialkot.
In Rawalpindi’s adjoining area Gujar Khan, three children lost their lives in various incidents triggered by the storm. Dozens of incidents were reported of roofs collapsing and trees falling due to the strong winds and heavy rain.
Rescue officials reported that a 14-year-old girl, Ariba, died when her house’s roof collapsed in the Sangni area. In Changa Bangyal, two children, 8-year-old Zul Hassan and 9-year-old Haider Abbas, were killed when their roof caved in.
Fifteen injured individuals were transported to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. Among them, 12-year-old Alize and 4-year-old Farhan were critically injured and transferred to Rawalpindi’s DHQ Hospital.
Meanwhile, in Sialkot, three people died in separate incidents caused by a strong windstorm.
In the Islam Nagar neighborhood on Kashmir Road, a dilapidated wall of a junkyard collapsed, burying two individuals under the rubble. Rescue 1122 extracted Aqib and Qamar from the debris and transported them to the hospital, where 27-year-old Aqib succumbed to his injuries.
In the Bhag area of Tehsil Pasrur, an uncle and nephew were struck by lightning and killed. 32-year-old Raheel and 12-year-old Muhammad Ali were cutting fodder in the fields when they were struck by lightning.
