The law enforcement agencies in Karachi have recovered an individual who was being held hostage by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officials.
According to DIG CTD Asif Ejaz Sheikh, the recovered individual had returned to Pakistan from Iraq.
The CTD team had taken the individual into custody but had failed to inform the higher authorities about his detention.
The DIG revealed that the CTD sub-inspector and ASI have been arrested, while the SHO has been suspended, in connection with this incident. He added that a constable and an informant involved in the case are currently absconding.
Sheikh stated that the CTD team had demanded Rs 500,000 from the individual’s family, but the amount was eventually negotiated down to Rs 100,000.
He also mentioned that plain-clothed Rangers personnel made the payment, after which the uniformed CTD officers conducted the raid.
