Police bar protesters from marching to US embassy

The Islamabad police barred on Friday the supporters of Islami Jamiat Talaba, the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, from marching towards the United States embassy as they held a protest in favour of the Palestinians.

“Protesters attempt to enter the Red Zone. Islamabad Police is on alert to maintain law and order. Protesters cannot be allowed to enter the Red Zone,” the police said in a social media post.

“All the law and order situation is being directly monitored by the DIG operations.”

Live footage from the site showed the police stopping the protesters from entering the sealed area. A heavy contingent of police was deployed in the area as the police sealed the Serena Chowk, which leads to different embassies, including the US.

Officials told Aaj News that talks between the protesters and the police failed.
