United Kingdom’s High Commissioner Jane Marriott met leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Thursday.
Marriott posted a photo on her X account showing her standing next to PTI leaders Omar Ayub Khan, Raoof Hassan and Hamid Khan
“Pleasure meeting PTI leaders, and congratulations to @OmarAyubKhan on his appointment as Leader of the Opposition,” Marriott wrote along with the photo.
“Important all MNAs work together on the critical issues Pakistan faces, starting with economic reform to secure Pakistan’s prosperity,” she added.
Hassan, who is a spokesperson of the PTI, responded to Marriott’s tweet, calling the meeting an ‘absolute pleasure’.
“The session with @JaneMarriottUK & her team members was an absolute pleasure,” he wrote.
“Discussed a host of issues of mutual interest. Look forward to continuing the interaction,” he added.
Hassan has criticised Marriott’s activities in Pakistan in the past, particulary a visit to the Election Commision of Pakistan in September last year.
“Calling upon a contemner of the constitution is like applauding him for his misdeeds. Will she allow such an act to be enacted in her own country? Are we revisiting a colonial past?” he had said at the time.
“It is time for @JaneMarriottUK to walk out of that horrid past, stop acting the vicereine & display some consideration to the dominant public sentiment,” he had added.
