Naanbais in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have warned the government that the tandoors would be closed if their office-bearers were not released.
Khursheed Qureshi, the Naanbai Association general secretary, told reporters in Rawalpindi that their president was arrested after summoning a meeting on the notification issued by the Punjab government for the new roti rate.
On Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that the roti price was decreased from Rs20 to Rs15.
“If office bearers were not released by tonight then we will protest tomorrow [Tuesday] and shut down the tandoors across the country,” Qureshi said.
He added that they would not leave their representative alone. The association demanded the prime minister and the Punjab chief minister to take notice of the incident.
“Prices will not be enforced by coercion,” Qureshi said and demanded that naanbais condition should be considered.
