Aseefa Bhutto Zardari was sworn in as a member of the National Assembly on Monday, becoming the second family member to become part of Pakistan’s incumbent Parliament after her brother Bilawal.
NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq administered the oath of office to her during the session of the lower house of parliament that was summoned by him on the requisition of opposition parties.
Lawmakers from the opposition benches protested in front of the NA speaker’s daise. They were holding placards and chanted slogans when Aseefa was taking the oath.
Aseefa Bhutto Zardari was elected unopposed as a member of the National Assembly from NA-207 Shaheed Benazirabad, formerly Nawabshah, in Sindh on March 29.
Aseefa, 31, is the youngest of Zardari’s three children with former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. Others are Bakhtawar and Bilawal.
Aseefa’s induction into parliament marks another significant chapter in the political saga of the Bhutto dynasty. She will carry forward the political legacy of her family alongside her elder brother.
