The Punjab police have said both security institutions have ‘amicably’ resolved the Bahawalnagar incident which went viral on social media on Wednesday.
In a statement on social media platform X, police claimed that the Bahawalnagar incident was taken out of context and exaggerated on social media.
On the first day of Eid, several social media users claimed that 40 to 50 army personnel stormed the madrasa police station of Bahawalnagar and tortured the policemen present there.
The statement described such unverified claims as an “attempt” to create a false impression that there was a confrontation between the Pakistan Army and the Punjab Police.
According to the statement, the two institutions conducted an “immediate” joint investigation after the unconfirmed rumours went viral on social media. Officers of the two institutions reviewed all the facts and resolved the matter “amicably”.
The statement further said that the Pakistan Army and Punjab Police were continuing joint operations in the province to bring terrorists, miscreants and dangerous criminals to justice.
