Imran Khan approves Omar Ayub’s name for opposition leader in NA

PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan Wednesday said that Omar Ayub Khan will be the opposition leader in the National Assembly after party founder Imran Khan approved his name for the position.

Speaking to the media outside Adiala jail, he said that the PTI will approach the Sindh and Peshawar high courts against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision against the allocation of reserved seats to the party.

He was flanked by party leaders Taimur Khan Jhagra and Barrister Salman Akram Raja.

Barrister Khan claimed that the PTI had won 180 seats in the National Assembly.

It is pertinent to mention that party leader Sher Afzal Marwat was reportedly the frontrunner for the role of leader of opposition in the National Assembly.

Sources said that his nomination was backed by PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan who took an interest in making Marwat opposition leader in the national assembly.

Omar Ayub, on the other hand, contested the election for the prime minister slot from the Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) platform.

He was defeated by Shehbaz Sharif who secured 201 votes as against 92 votes bagged by Ayub.
