PTI-backed Dawar Kundi wins NA-43 election

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed Dawar Kundi won the election in Tank’s NA-43 on Monday, defeating Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam’s Mufti Asad Mahmood.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had suspended the polling process in six polling stations due to deteriorating law and order conditions on February 8.

Mehmood had requested repolling in the six polling stations which started at 8:00am and continued till 5:00pm.

As per results of all 348 polling stations, Kundi secured 64,483 votes, while Mahmood got 63,900 votes, a difference of only 583 votes.

Armed attack on polling station

An assailant was killed in a fire exchange with the police after an armed group attacked a polling station in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan on Monday.

Reports said that around 25 armed men opened fire on a polling station established in Kot Azam Middle School during polling for the NA-43 constituency.

Several were reported to be injured in the attack while the voting process was suspended as the police began a clearance operation. It was restarted after some time.

According to sources, locals had been receiving calls from unknown mobile numbers warning them against participating in the voting process.
