Cabinet approves extraditing Pakistani terror suspect to Norway

The Federal Cabinet has approved the extradition of Irfan Qadir Bhatti who is facing terrorism charges in Norway.

Bhatti, who is a dual Norwegian and Pakistani citizen, will be handed over to Norway soon. The decision was taken on the recommendation of the Interior Ministry.

He was the leader of an organisation called “Profetens Ummah” and had pledged allegiance to ISIS.

Bhatti is accused of plotting to attack the US and Israeli embassies and firing shots into the wall of a synagogue in Oslo in September 2006.

A Norwegian court had began proceedings against him in 2008. If convicted, he could face 12 years in jail.

According to a press release from the Prime Minister Office, Islamabad’s additional deputy commissioner was appointed to lead the investigation against Bhatti. The investigation found him guitly and receommended that he be handed over to Norway.
