The caretaker Punjab cabinet has approved to keep educational institutions closed across the province during the election 2024.
“In view of the upcoming general elections on 8th February, Provincial Cabinet has approved that all public and private sector schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will be closed from Feb 6th to Feb 9th,” caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said in a post on X.
He went on to add that the 9:30am timing for schools will be observed till February 3 while regular school timings will be observed later on.
The 12th general election, after months of delay, is set for February 8.
It is pertinent to mention that the caretaker government of Punjab on January 8 announced the opening of schools on Jan 10 as schools operating in single-shifts were directed to start classes from 9:30am till 1:00pm.
Likewise, schools working in double shifts will begin the first shift from 9:30am till 1:30pm while the evening shift’s classes will be from 1:45pm till 5:30pm.
Later on January 20, the School Education Department notified the extension of revised timings for schools amid extreme cold and smog in the province.
