BPL team denies match fixing allegations against Shoaib Malik

Bangladesh Premier League team Fortune Barishal has denied claims that match fixing claims against Shoaib Malik led to his termination from the league.

In a video statement, Barishal owner Meezan ur Rehman said that the allegations were baseless and Malik had left the league due to personal reasons.

The speculation about Malik’s termination started when it was revealed that Malik had departed for the UAE in the middle of the league on January 24.

The story was picked up by mainstream Indian news outlets including NDTV. However, the claims were based entirely on social media posts.

Many of the posts attached a screenshot of malik bowling a no-ball.

Overstepping the line in a cricket match is linked to the fixing scandals in Pakistan and reminds cricket fans of the spot fixing scandal in pakistan tour to England in 2010.

Immediately after his departure, the Barishals had said that he would be available to play against Chattogram Challengers on January 27.

Malik has recently been in the news for his marriage to actress Sana Javed.
