Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has claimed that a live cricket broadcast on Pakistan Television was cut off after a photo of Imran Khan was played on the screen.
The party’s account on X posted a screengrab of PTV sports showing the fourth T20 international between Pakistan and New Zealand on Friday.
The video shows a spectator holding a poster of Imran Khan with the words ‘Legend of the legends’ written on it.
However, the broadcast abruptly cut to a screen with PTV’s logo on it after the spectator stayed on the screen for a few moments. The match was in the middle of the sixth over when the screen cut to the logo.
“Anyone knows why PTV suddenly stopped suddenly streaming of the cricket match when they realised Imran Khan’s poster was being shown?” the party wrote on X.
PTI leader Taimur Saleem Jhagra also posted a video of a TV screen cutting away from the poster of Imran Khan.
“Game toh on hai,” he wrote.
“But can PTV not bear a single poster of Imran Khan at a cricket match? This is 2024. These are the tactics that are rallying the entire nation behind Imran Khan,” he wrote.
Imran Khan is currently in Adiala Jail after facing arrest in multiple cases. Even though he has obtained bail in the cipher case under the Official Secrets Act, he continues to face corruption cases whose trial is carried out in jail.
Since last year, Khan’s face and name have been removed from TV screens.
