At least 12 students and two teachers are feared to be drowned drowning in India’s Gujrat after a boat taking them to a school picnic capsized on Thursday, BBC News reported.
Anupam Singh Gehlot, the Vadodara city police commissioner, confirmed the death toll to Gujarati section of the British news channel.
The cause of the incident was not yet known. Around 27 people were aboard the boat, local authorities said.
Local police said that as many as seven people have been rescued from the water.
Police Commissioner Gehlot stated that the rescued children were undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
The state government announced that it would give 400,000 Indian rupees to the families of the deceased and 50,000 Indian rupees to the families of those injured in the accident.
