In a first, a husband in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday filed the nomination papers of his wife for a provincial seat in the district.
The woman, identified as Sultanat Bibi will contest in the upcoming election for the provincial seat from the district.
She resolved to work to provide education, health and employment to the women of her constituency, saying that she would work to address the challenges faced by the women in the area.
According to Sultanat Bibi’s husband, his wife decided to contest elections to work for the development of women.
He said that the women face several issues in the tribal areas, which Sultanat wants to address after succeeding in the polls slated for February 8 next year.
It is pertinent to mention that the deadline for submission of nomination papers to contest in general elections ended today.
Earlier this week, the Election Commission of Pakistan extended the deadline to submit nomination papers by two days after a demand by some political parties.
In a statement, the ECP said that political parties should also submit the forms to the relevant returning officers for specific seats.
