The police on Friday arrested the suspect who circulated the photos of a woman who was allegedly killed by her family over her viral images in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohistan region last month, sources said.
According to sources in police, the images of the girl went viral from the phone of suspect Yasmin Khan who was arrested on the information provided by the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cybercrime Wing.
He was handed over to the police on a 6-day remand, they added.
The horrific event involving violence against women surfaced on November 24 when local media reported that one of the two girls, whose images with a man went viral on social media, was allegedly murdered by her father and uncle on the orders of a local jirga in Kolai-Palas of KP.
There were reports that a second woman was also seen in viral photos with the same man and she had been handed over to her family by a local court.
An FIR registered by the police said the initial report suggests that the pictures of two girls on Facebook went viral from the ID of a boy and the pictures of the women were also edited by Rehmat Shah and Aman Deedar.

Initially, the police reported that the girl was allegedly killed on the orders of a local jirga because she had appeared in a picture on social media. However, according to DSP Mukhtiar Ahmed, the victim was killed on the orders of her family.
Later, the FIA confirmed that the photos that allegedly led to the death of a teenage girl in Kohistan were doctored.
