At least 10 foreign nationals deported over political activities: Interior minister

Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Friday said that as many as 10 foreign nationals living in Pakistan were found involved in domestic politics of the country and were being deported.

However, the minister did not disclose the nationalities and identities of the foreigners who were being deported.

“The foreign nationals living in Pakistan with any status cannot participate in any kind of political activity. They have nothing to do with Pakistani politics. Initially, 10 such people have been identified who were involved in political activities. They are being deported,” he said while addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Friday.

According to him, foreign nationals found involved in political activity will be deported immediately as the country is nearing elections.

Bugti said that the actual number of such individuals involved in domestic politics was more than the initial figures.

“With time maybe within a week or so, I will tell you more as we are identifying them,” he added.

Threats to political leaders

The interior minister said that the political leaders of the country were facing threats as they began their electoral campaign.

“It is part of politics for leaders to go out and meet their people. We cannot ask them to stay home. But we can ensure peaceful elections,” he added.

According to him, the authorities received a threat alert regarding JUI-F’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman. In general, the political gatherings were also facing threats, he said.
