The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) might decide on issuing a show-cause notice to sitting apex court judge Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, sources have said. The SJC adjourned on Tuesday its proceedings to consider complaints against Naqvi until Wednesday.
In the prolonged session, the SC judge’s counsel Khawaja Haris Ahmed urged the council to continue the in-camera proceedings until a final decision has been made.
The meeting was presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa. The complainants, along with their witnesses, were summoned to the meeting.
On Monday, a lengthy meeting of the SJC ended with complaints against Justice Tariq Masood being dismissed. “There is no substance in the complaint and we are of the opinion that it was filed maliciously to defame Justice Sardar Tariq Masood,” the statement had read.
Sources added that the council completed the proceedings to the extent of hearing the position of the complainants on Tuesday. The complainant presented all the evidence and related documents in the session.
They said that the SJC also considered Justice Naqvi’s concerns apart from reviewing the complaints against him.
Meanwhile, the council barred all the members from making the proceedings public.
The session would resume on Wednesday (tomorrow) at 3pm.
