The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the registrar to fix petitions against the expulsion of Afghan citizens for hearing.
Justice Yahya Afridi heard the chamber appeal against the registrar’s objections on Monday.
The judge overruled the registrar’s objections and ordered that the case be fixed for hearing immediately.
The registrar had reutnred the petitions without admitting them, saying that the petitioner’s had not specifically pointed out how the issue was affecting fundamental rights under Article 184 (3).
The petitions were filed by Umer Ijaz Gilani on behalf of 13 human rights activist.
The activists demanded that the SC should put an end to forced deportations of Afghan refugees.
The government had fixed November 1 as a deadline for undocumented Afghan refugee to leave the country. After the expiry of the deadline, the government began arresting and moving the refugees to holding camps where they were held until deportation.
