PTI holds first workers convention since May 9 in Charsadda

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held its first workers convention in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda district on Friday since the May 9 riots after which a crackdown was initiated against the party workers and leaders.

Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, member of PTI Chief Imran Khan’s legal team, participated in the convention held at former PTI MNA Fazal Mohammad Khan’s hujra. The convention attracted hundreds of PTI workers.

In his address, Marwat claimed that PTI is not allowed to hold a worker convention while other parties are given permission to hold rallies in public places.

He said that the PTI would win by a two-thirds majority if free and fair elections were held in the country.

While there were concerns that the PTI workers and leaders would be arrested for participating in the convention, police said that action was not being taken against any PTI leader as the gathering was held inside the premises of Hujra.
