PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has criticised the PML-N and said that it was better to give him a chance than to elect someone for the second or fourth time.
“I am only looking at the people. If one has to be a ‘laadla’, they should be a ‘laadla’ of the people,” he said while addressing the workers’ convention in Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.
“I will only derive my political strength from the people as it is in the belief system of the PPP that the people are the source of power and it is their prerogative alone to elect their representatives. No one else has this right.”
In the recent past, the PPP has expressed their concerns over the “treatment” given to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif after returning to the country. The former Sindh ruling party has claimed that they were not given proper opportunity to campaign in Punjab and called for a level-playing field ahead of general elections.
Although, he has claimed that they have no rivals but Bilawal has criticised the PML-N and advised Nawaz to focus on Punjab. In reaction to the verbal onslaught, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif had said that crying would not lead them anywhere.
While speaking about the people’s power, he said: “Our quarrel with Imran Khan was over the same issue. The decision should be of the people alone. We do not accept a puppet government or a selected rule. We had only wished for them to stop bothering our people. Our demand is the same today.”
He advised his political counterparts the biggest adversary of the people was the same “old manner of doing politics” that excludes the people and makes their decisions for them “behind closed doors”.
Bilawal, who was in KP after meeting his voters in Hindu dominated area Thar, said that he was grateful to the supporters of the PPP for giving him such a grand on his tour of the province. He especially thanked the women who were present.
“The PPP and you have a relationship of three generations,” he said and added that KP used to be called the ‘NWFP’ but it was during the PPP’s tenure and due to the efforts of former president Zardari that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was given an identity.

“This party [PPP] is for the poor and middle class. We gave the people of KP their rights through the NFC Award. We began the revolutionary Benazir Income Support Programme to support the poor women of the country, empower them and help them combat poverty. We are proud of these accomplishments of the PPP but our political journey and struggle is still going on,” he said.
He reiterated that the PPP has no political opponent. “Our rival is not the PML-N or the PTI, but poverty, unemployment and inflation which have burdened our people.”
Bilawal promised to bring a ‘Kissan Card’ for the farmers so that they were able to reap the benefits of their hard work and efforts directly. He added that the party also desired to bring a ‘Benazir Mazdoor Card’ and provide the benefits of social security of the workers and look after their wellbeing.
“The PPP is always ready for elections. We have not shied away from contesting the elections and fully trust the people. Our request for other political parties would be the same, that they too trust the people alone and not play the same game that is being played with the country and its democracy for seven decades,” the scion of Bhutto dynasty said.
